Holiday? HoliDANGER! (Introduction)
Be it familial, financial, or work related, the end of the year can present its share of holiday fueled pressure. But unnerving as it can be, most of us escape being shot at by rogue androids and avoid getting trapped in the path of giant monsters (at least for now). Many fictional folks, however, have to deal with precisely these kinds of problems - and worse. Some may see these genre movie crises unfold onscreen and feel relief that their own seasonal problems are comparatively insignificant. Others may envy this simpler breed of struggle, preferring a fight with a ten ton insect to enduring a relative's political declarations. If watching the misfortune of someone caught in the claws of some misbegotten horror can somehow leaven our own holiday troubles, I thought it would be worthwhile to dive into this land of cinematic carnage now, at a time when most are looking to indulge in any form of distraction.
From now until New Year's Day, I will try to watch and write about as many films as I'm reasonably able, and though I can't promise more than a handful of entries, I might end up posting many, barring some unforeseen circumstance. I will be putting quantity before quality, as much in the interest of experimentation as workload management, and the entries will be more informal and loose than what I typically strive to produce. They will also be brief, no more than a paragraph or two, on average. I will not be watching pure horror films exclusively - there may be supernatural thrillers, science fiction creature features, or anything that contains a singular element of threat or menace that would qualify as a DANGER! Each entry will open with a description of said DANGER, or menace, and I hope to have quite a group assembled by the end.
Wishing you a better than tolerable holiday!
